Bamfield Salmon Fishing report for the past week.

Salmon fishing has been quite good in most areas around Bamfield. This past weekend saw the Sproat Lake Loggers spring chinook derby kick off the start of Salmon fishing for nearly 500 participants. The top fish were 20.8, 16.5, and 15.5 pounds, pretty respectable for the first week of March. I’m sure almost everyone went home with salmon. Some of the hot spots were Vernon Bay, Back Door, Pill Point, The Wall, WhistleBouy, and Sandford Island. Lures of choice varied from Anchovy & Herring to Spoons & Hotchies. A lot of fish were found at depths of 200 feet or more in some areas.

Halibut fishing has been good with some nice catches inside Barkley Sound and outside when the seas permit.
